AWARDING OF CREDIT


SECTION ONE: PURPOSE AND ALIGNMENT OF POLICY

1.01 Purpose

The purpose of this regulation is to establish a procedure for determining the amount and level of credit awarded for evaluating, awarding, and accepting credit not originating from Angelina College.

1.02 Alignment

Angelina College discipline and program faculty direct the process of adding, removing, and modifying courses, utilizing the guidelines established by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), the Career and Technical Education (CTE) guidelines, the Workforce Education Course Manual (WECM), and the Academic Course Guide Manual (ACGM). 

SECTION TWO: AWARDING OF CREDIT

2.01 Awarding of Transfer Course Credits

Credits assigned to a course at Angelina College are determined by the Lower-Division Academic Course Guide Manual (ACGM) guidelines. 

2.02 Awarding of Non-Transfer Course Credits

When determining course credits, the college uses the recommendations and requirements provided by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), the CTE guidelines, and the Workforce Education Course Manual (WECM).

2.03 Curriculum Committee

Course changes are submitted to the Curriculum Committee, including adding a new course, deleting a course, revising a course or its contact hours, revising a course description, revising a course title, changing a course prerequisite, changing a course corequisite, or adding a course to the core. The faculty lead instructor will submit changes via the Curriculum Committee proposal form (Regulation EG Exhibit). The Curriculum Committee will vote on any course changes. Only those changes which are approved by the Curriculum Committee will be implemented.

For Workforce courses, changes will also be approved by the advisory committee prior to submission to the Curriculum Committee. 


The Vice President of Academic Affairs is responsible for reviewing and updating this regulation. Policy reviews are made in accordance with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness Policy Tracking document.
