EQUAL EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY: PREGNANT AND PARENTING STUDENTS

Procedures

The College President or designee shall develop procedures addressing protections and accommodations, consistent with law, for students who are pregnant or parenting, including procedures addressing early registration or pre-registration and leaves of absence.

Liaison

The College President shall designate a pregnant and parenting students liaison for current and  incoming students who are pregnant or who are the parents or guardians of children under 18 years old. The liaison shall provide the students information on and access to resources designed to help them successfully and timely complete a degree or certificate. The liaison shall also serve as the point of contact for a student requesting a protection or accommodation under Education Code 51.982. The liaison’s contact information shall be included in the procedures described above.

Publication

The procedures and the liaison’s contact information shall be published in the student and employee handbooks and posted on the College District’s website in a location that is readily available to current and incoming students who are pregnant or who are the parents or guardians of children under 18 years old. 


The Executive Director of Student Affairs is responsible for reviewing and updating this policy. Policy reviews are made in accordance with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness Policy Tracking document.
