INSTRUCTIONAL ARRANGEMENTS


1.01 Course Syllabus

The syllabus informs each student of the instructional aims, the course content, course requirements, instructional activities, and methods of evaluation. It is a guide to the expectations and rules to promote the teaching-learning process. It is reviewed during the first day of class.

The format for the course syllabus is distributed to all full-time faculty by the school dean or their designee. The approved syllabus will be used by all instructors to guide their preparation and presentation in the assigned class(es).

The course information distributed to the students includes, but is not limited to, the following:

1.01.1 Course number, title, description, prerequisites, credit hours, and intended audience instructor’s name, contact information, office location, and office hours.
1.01.2 Course learning outcomes     

1.01.3 Program learning outcomes; as appropriate for program-specific courses.

1.01.4 Course materials: text(s), supplemental materials, and equipment required for the course.     

1.01.5 Policies and expectations assignments, due dates, schedules, attendance punctuality, classroom behavior, test make-up, and late work policy.

1.01.6 Course Schedule of Content required topics/units including a title that gives a brief description of the content.

1.01.7 Evaluation and grading of student performance grade calculations.

1.01.8 Statement on syllabus revisions.

1.02 Instructional Procedures

Students or guests should not be allowed in class on a continuous basis unless they are on the class roll as a registered student,  or special permission has been received from the Vice President of Academic Affairs.    

When space is available, permission to audit a course may be obtained from the Registrar’s Office. Students auditing a course may no claim credit for the course. A student who is registered for a course may not change from audit to credit, or credit to audit after the scheduled add-drop period. Charges for auditing a course are the same as regular tuition and fees.

1.03 Class  Meetings and Office Hours

All classes must meet as scheduled. If unable to meet a class, or office hours the faculty member must notify the school dean; for course meetings in the event the dean is not available, notify the office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs

1.04 If a faculty member is unable to attend office hours, the school dean should be informed.

1.05 Classes may be dismissed by the President in emergency cases such as weather-related incidents.

1.06 Final Exams

All instructors should offer their final exam according to the published schedule each semester. All proposed changes to the published schedule each semester must receive approval from the Vice President of Academic Affairs     .

1.07 Guest Speakers

As a rule, individual faculty members should use discretion, diplomacy, and common sense regarding the invitation of speakers to their classes. The school dean and Vice President of Academic Affairs should be informed of guests in advance and grant approval for their appearance.

1.08 Guests and Children in Classroom, On Campus

Instructors are responsible for providing a quality instructional environment that facilitates optimal education for students [See Regulation DNA]. Faculty members should generally not allow a student’s guests or children to visit classes. Young children should not be left unattended or unsupervised on campus. When children are present for scheduled learning activities, the parent or guardian remains responsible for the child’s well-being.


  The Vice President of Academic Affairs is responsible for reviewing and updating this regulation. Policy reviews are made in accordance with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness Policy Tracking document.
